“vos sos como yo pero en otro”. una exhibición colectiva de retratos. | por guillermina baiguera, lucio romano, gaston caba, veronica gomez, nadia lawson, bruno gruppalli, virginia negri, alejandra gomez, lucas mercado, florencia caterina, andrea vazquez, nicolas ozuna, romina iglesias, juan hernandez, sebastian bruno, sofia berakha. | curador, david nahon. | Hace mucho tiempo pensaba que el modelo ideal era el modelo muerto, y que el unico retrato posible seria aquel que se realizara sobre un cuerpo sin vida. Recordaba las primeras fotografias aplicadas a cadaveres que permitian tiempos prolongados de exposicion. Luego pense en la tanatopraxia: si maquillar a una persona muerta era una forma de hacer un retrato -despues de todo siempre se parte de algun lado. Para ese entonces conoci a Demagistris, un peluquero que realiza retratos con el cabello que corta a sus clientes. Me di cuenta que siempre se esta hablando de uno mismo, aun cuando se ensaya retratar a otro. Entonces entiendo que un retrato no es un retrato, es apenas la representacion de un rostro, como el paisaje de alguien. Un retrato es otra cosa. O lo que un retrato intenta capturar pasa por otro lado. Finalmente, cualquier pieza de arte es autoreferencial y, en ese movimiento -a veces por accidente de una generalidad- se refiere al otro y sin querer se lo retrata.Quizás un retrato sea una naturaleza muerta con persona. | en chez vautier: calle uspallata 2181 piso 1 departamento A | inauguración sabado 10 de abril, 18 hs. cierra el sábado 17. www.chezvautier.com

Piñatarama | Group Show - Mexico

The piñata’s associated with the Latino culture, but historians point to Asia (especially China) as its actual point of origin. It’s supposed that the famous traveler Marco Polo’s visit to that nation, he saw how the Chinese created colorful animal figures covered with paper, which is hung with ornaments, and were used in the New Year celebrations. As a good observer, Polo brought Europe the idea of these early piñatas. Although housed in various regions of their religious significance, today, is considered a symbol of fun and entertainment.

Between contemporary design of characters and this popular tradition the project aims to let ourselves be surprised by the unexpected results arising from the interpretation of these characters by Mexican artisans who made them. And give the viewer a particular facility where the 30 piñatas “design” reflect the contemporary look of mixtures, juxtaposition and appropriation, in this case an object culturally ingrained in Latin America. Mexican artisans Ricardo Linares and Lorenzo García will be constructing the piñatas based on the designs of 25 worldwide artists including Cupco, Cecy Meade, Apak, S.britt, Snaggs, Tado, David Gamez, Gaston Caba, Sonni, and many more!
